Amorphous polymers melt gradually when heated. During cooling, amorphous polymer chains solidify slowly in a random orientation. Common amorphous polymers include ABS, polystyrene, polycarbonate, and PVC.
Semi-crystalline polymers melt quickly, once heated to their melting temperature. Semi-crystalline polymers include nylon, polyester, polyethylene, and polypropylene.
